The 1st ACM Summer School in Europe | Data Science and Big Data
The 1st ACM Europe Summer School on Data Science will take place in Athens on July 13th-19th 2017. Young Computer Science researchers from all over the world will have the opportunity to attend summer courses in the topics of Data Science, Data Management and Analysis, Machine Learning, Big Data, and Security and Privacy.
The summer school is addressed to young Computer Science researchers and engineers, i.e. young faculty, postdocs, PhD candidates, young engineers from industry and in some special cases MSc students or even senior undergraduate students. In terms of its format, the school will be mostly a mix of formal lectures in the morning and practical exercises in the afternoon with a final test at the end of the week.
Keynote lectures by major figures in the field will also be given at key points of the program. All courses will take place in the Royal Olympic Hotel, which is located in the center of Athens.
Student fees are covered by ACM and the other School sponsors and include the following: all course material and documentation, accommodation for 8 nights (in: 12 July, out: 20 July) in the 4* Royal Olympic Hotel (in double occupancy rooms -students appropriately paired up-, with breakfast and lunch included), and several social activities (details to be announced soon). Personal expenses and any other expenses (e.g. flights to and from Athens, single occupancy accommodation etc) not expressly stated here are not covered by the School.
The school will end with a social dinner, which will include an awards ceremony. An interesting and stimulating complementary social program will take advantage of the historical surroundings of the venue.
The School is organized and sponsored by the ACM organization, the ACM Europe Council, ACM SIGMOD, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and “Athena” Research and Innovation Center.
